Since its founding in 1949 in Nagano, Japan, YASHICA has played a notable role in the history of imaging by creating tools that make visual storytelling accessible, expressive, and enduring. 

 

With more than 75 years of innovation, YASHICA has introduced over 150 products spanning classic film cameras, lenses, and modern digital imaging solutions. 

 

Across decades of change, YASHICA’s evolution has reflected both technological progress and cultural shifts in how people capture moments. What began with mechanical precision and optical craftsmanship naturally expanded to embrace digital imaging and creative media tools, always with the goal of preserving the emotional depth that defines memorable photography.
 

A New Era: Community-Powered Innovation

 

In recent years, YASHICA has embraced crowdfunding as a way to build products with the community, not just for it.


This approach reflects a philosophy that product creation can be most meaningful when the community has a voice in shaping what comes next, offering early engagement, feedback, and participation. Creators, explorers, and everyday users can directly shape the future of our products.

The Brand Reborn: digiFilm and Early Community Engagement

 

After a long period of silence in the imaging world, the YASHICA Brand Reborn campaign began in 2017, marking a pivotal moment in the company’s modern history. This initiative stirred global interest across the photography community and media as teasers and previews hinted at something new from a name long cherished by enthusiasts. 

 

When the campaign officially launched on 10 October 2017, it introduced the world’s first digiFilm system and an innovative camera with digital film simulation. The Kickstarter campaign quickly gained momentum, securing USD 1.3 million in pledges from over 7,000 backers in more than 25 countries by the time it ended, making it one of Asia’s most successful campaigns in both pledged amount and number of supporters.

 

This success reestablished YASHICA in the public eye and set the foundation for future product developments, reaffirming the brand’s position at the intersection of analog tradition and modern imaging innovation.

YASHICA Vision: Night Takes a New Form

In January 2024, YASHICA expanded beyond traditional photographic tools with the launch of YASHICA Vision, the company’s first‑ever binocular night vision device designed to bring clarity and creative possibility to low‑light environments. 

 

This project demonstrated both a commitment to innovation and a willingness to explore categories beyond conventional imaging. The Vision campaign achieved significant success on Kickstarter, raising HK$8,201,872, further confirming the appetite for new visual experiences under the YASHICA name.

YASHICA Explorer — Expanding Vision Beyond Light

Building on the momentum of community engagement, the YASHICA Explorer campaign expanded YASHICA’s innovation into advanced night vision goggles with dual‑screen full‑color performance and AI‑enhanced imaging. 


When launched on Kickstarter in 2024, the Explorer campaign resonated strongly with backers worldwide, achieving more than 36× its original funding goal and raising over HK$2.5 million (approximately USD $320,000+). Supported by more than 1,000 backers around the world, this campaign demonstrated a clear appetite for accessible, high‑performance visual tools that extend human sight into low‑light environments.

 

This milestone demonstrated global demand for accessible, high-performance night vision tools.

 

 

YASHICA FX-D: A Breakthrough in Digital Film Experience

 

The YASHICA FX‑D crowdfunding campaign represents one of the most significant community achievements in the brand’s recent history. Designed to blend the intuitive experience of film photography with modern digital performance, the FX‑D resonated broadly with photography enthusiasts and creators worldwide. 


The campaign was funded at more than 14,000 % of its original goal, accumulating over USD 700,000 in pledges from more than 1,800 passionate backers. Enthusiasts from regions such as the United States, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Germany contributed to this remarkable outcome, affirming global interest in creative imaging tools that honor both heritage and innovation.


The FX-D reflects our vision of bringing the emotional language of film into the digital era, making creative photography more intuitive and expressive.
